Pep Guardiola is enjoying more power

Pep Guardiola is enjoying more power than the previous head coaches did at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola’s word is taken as the final word by the City hierarchy when it comes to buying players and also stretching the contract of the players.

Earlier, all such decisions were made by Txiki Begiristain who is one of the directors at the club. But, the power has shifted and now nothing moves ahead until and unless Guardiola gives it a green signal.

Begiristain’s job is now limited only to deliberating the terms and conditions of the contract with the agents of the players.

The reason the Sky Blues bosses have lost faith in Begiristain’s ability of judging players is that they have allowed him to spend as much money as he wanted in the last few years, but, still, he has failed to build a squad that can challenge even for the domestic title consistently. (more…)

On September 5 of the ongoing year, the Korean Football Association announced that they had found a replacement for the former coach Hong Myung-Bo as they appointed Uli Stielike as the new manager of the South Korean national football team however, it was a very a surprising way to announce their new leader of the squad.

The technical director of the Korean Football Association Lee Yong-soo was the first to announce the news concerning the appointment of the former Real Madrid player Uli Stielike as the new coach of the national team.

Lee Yong-soo said: “I met Stielike in London and we talked for about two hours. The deal is for four years and runs until the final match of the World Cup in Russia. If we don’t qualify it will be terminated right away.

“He gave a good impression in three ways. Firstly, he was frank about his past failures, secondly, he really cared about his coaches, and lastly he was very passionate about managing Korean football overall. He said he would come to Korea with his family. Now we will try our best to help him. He may not be the best coach in the world but I think he has enough ability to change football in Korea. I know his record as a national team manager is not great but he can do well for Korea’’

Lee Yong-soo admitted in saying that Uli Stielike is not the best coach in the world but has enough abilities and skills needed to change their national squad and the traditional football style in Korea.

Ever since Uli Stielike turned into the coach of Korea Republic, the national team has been going through a number of positive and negative results with a 3-1 triumph over Venezuela and another victory over Paraguay. But at the same time went through a few defeats after playing with Uruguay and most recently against Costa Rica.

Ronaldinho Future Remains UNclear

The football destinations of Ronaldinho are narrowing down after Palmeiras announced that a deal could never be made involving the former Athletic Mineiro who is now a free agent. The 34 year old midfielder is ongoing talks and rumors have been stirring up linking the experienced player with a number of local Brazilian clubs. Palmeiras is believed to have launched a series of offers for Ronaldinho but the player rejected them and the future of Ronaldinho is once more unclear.

The MLS is a possible place where Ronaldinho can end up and this is something that is being done on a more frequent basis as well-known experienced players decide to make a move into a league where the pressure of playing is not as high compared to others around the world.

The New York Red Bulls is a team that has recently been linked with Ronaldinho but according to the sporting director of the club, Andy Roxburgh there have not been any contacts or approaches made by the player.

“Nobody has ever approached us. We haven’t been approached by anybody mentioning Ronaldinho. All I’m saying is this, as the sporting director of this club, and I can speak also on behalf of my other colleagues in the business, we have not been approached about him. Nobody has offered us Ronaldinho. No one has said ‘How much money?’

“I saw his name, but I’ve never talked to Ronaldinho or his people or made any offers. And the answer is we wouldn’t be doing it anyway. It’s not a matter of did we or didn’t we? Or who spoke to him or who didn’t speak to him? A great player by the way, fantastic player by the way. He’s not for here.”

The official of the New York Red Bulls, Andy Roxburgh said that there has been no communications made between the Brazilian player and the club but a transfer could happen if the demands by the club and by Ronaldinho are met.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré has revealed that his family is split due to the title race with Liverpool, as his brother Kolo Toure plays for the Merseyside club. Kolo Toure moved to Anfield in the summer on a free transfer after Manchester City decided not to extend his contract.

Yaya Touré, on the other hand, has been one of the best players in the league this season. Despite being a midfielder, he has scored more than 20 goals in all competitions with some of them being spectacular and contenders for the goal of the season. (more…)

Rooney Demands Captaincy

Ace footballer, Wayne Rooney, post his new contract with Old Trafford has a confirmed that he is very interested to take up captaincy both at England and Manchester United. With the Serbian national Nemanja Vidic ready for a move in the summer to Inter Milan, it is strongly suspected that Rooney focused to take up that position. As far as the national team of England is concerned, only future will tell for how long the present caption Steven Gerrard continues with his post beyond the summer World Cup.

When asked about how he feels about the situation, Rooney readily answered that he has played captain quite a number of times and fortunately if Moyes asks him to do so once again, he will be more than pleased to take up the new position as a captain. Having said that the entire decision depends on the manager and the one who is perfect for the job will be chosen for it. He however has complete faith on Moyes, that he’ll take the right decision and will pick only the one who is worthy enough.

Rooney further added that sure having the armband is an added charm, but with or without it he is quite vocal when on the pitch. He definitely helps the players out as and when needed and has the liberty to say what he feels is right. That is the most essential thing to him, to be honest and be able to express what is right. Keeping team England in mind he added that only Steven can comment on what is happening post summer World Cup, regarding his captaincy. Sure it will be a big honor to feature captain for his own country, however it once more is the call of the managers and he has to compete against few worthy contenders. Already Rooney is playing the role of a senior footballer by assisting juniors such as Adnan Januzaj.

Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o has stated that he is extremely happy with his current situation at the club. The Cameroon international scored the first hat-trick of his Chelsea career in the 3-1 win over Manchester United. It has helped Chelsea move 12 points ahead of United in the table, while also maintaining their position close to the top of the table. As a result of this victory, they remain two points behind Arsenal and one point behind Manchester city. Eto’o has been criticised for not delivering in the first few months after his arrival from Anzhi Makhachkala.

However, he appears to be slowly regaining the form that made him one of the best strikers in the world during his time at Barcelona and Inter Milan. The striker has scored 8 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions. This includes match-winning goals against Liverpool and Manchester United. The injury to Fernando Torres during the weekend is likely to make Eto’o the number one striker for the next few weeks. Even though his contract is set to expire in the summer, Eto’o is not worried about this and he is only concentrating on enjoying his football.

Eto’o has also said that it is difficult to compare the English league with the Spanish and Italian leagues, but he is looking to adapt as soon as possible.

“At the moment, we are still in practically all the competitions. If Chelsea are not the best club in the world, then they are one of the best clubs in the world, so I don’t know if we are going to win everything but the season is going well so far. I like playing and when I get the chance to do that I have to help my team-mates. There is a huge difference between English football and the other championships, you almost can’t compare it,” said Eto’o.

Even at his 32 years of age Samuel Eto’o has proven what he can offer not only to Chelsea but any club in the world as he scored twice against Schalke 04 in their Champions League encounter and keeps on increasing his total tally.

His performances have attracted the attention of the team from the Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC. Reports are emerging suggesting that Eto’o and Jermain Defoe are in their wish list along with Alessandro Del Piero and Alberto Gilardino all of which have reached a certain age and time in their career.

The former superstar of Barcelona is having an off and on time with Chelsea as he is being rotated by Jose Mourinho and sometimes making substitute appearances while other times he is chosen ahead of Fernando Torres and the rest of the attacking cast of the English club.

Eto’o will become a free agent in May and so will be the perfect chance for Toronto FC to make a move for him. The team is in need of someone to take charge and lead them on their way to win silverware which is why they are in search of a veteran player that can keep the weight of the team on their shoulders.

Tim Leiweke wants to turn Toronto FC into a winning team which is why they have announced their interest in signing a number of players but will be more than pleased on signing at least 1 or 2 of the ones that were mentioned.

Alessandro Del Piero’s contract with Sydney FC ends in 2014 at around the same Eto’o becomes a free agent which means that Toronto FC  can make a move both players during the same transfer window.
